Task 11: Advert In a Magazine - Print Products

The final part of our print products is an advert in a magazine. We chose to have this landscape as we wanted it because we liked the idea of it being an A3 two page spread. The first thing we did was insert the picture of Jess walking down the path and made it slightly transparent, we thought that this would be an effective photo to use as Jess is in the centre so we could have the writing around the outside of her. However, we wanted the artists name and the name of the album cover in the middle of the advert because it is more eye-catching and would therefore draw people in to reading it. Originally, we used the same font as we have used on our album cover for this (Seravek Extra Light) but we felt that it didn't look like a real media product, due to other adverts for albums having more complex titles. We decided to do some research and looked at real life adverts for albums in magazines, for example Jessie J's - Who You Are album and Ellie Goulding's - Lights album. Using 1001fonts.com, we experimented with lots of different fonts before we found one that looked most effective with our advert. Before inserting this however, we decided that the background didn't look bright enough so we inserted some lens flares on Premier Pro, which by inserting one in the top left corner, has made the photo look as if the sun is shining down on Jess. We then inserted the font and put it in the middle like we desired.

After looking at real album adverts, we decided to include a star rating, a small quote from a newspaper, and information about a certain song on the album. We wrote 'Includes Number One Hit On iTunes "Heaven"' as this is song in our music video. For this information we used the same font as the album cover as the information is only small, and having the new font we used for the titles on the advert would not have looked right. Another feature of an advert of an album is a small picture of the album cover itself, along with the price, bar-code and where it is available on it, which was used on the You Me at Six album. We decided to use the "Available on iTunes" logo because in modern society that is where most people buy their music, and no longer go into a music store to buy it. We put this price at £9.99 as that is the typical price for an album on iTunes.

After finishing this draft we changed our minds about the advert being A3 and landscape, due to the fact we had a lot of empty space. Therefore we thought we could create an A4 portrait version, to see which one we preferred. We used exactly the same information as before, just changed the layout and added a link to the artists official website at the bottom. When changing the layout, we put the photograph so that Jess was in the middle again, but having it like that would of made it impossible to have information around the outside of her without it covering her. As a result we cropped the photo and moved it to the right, so Jess is on the right hand side and the information could go on the left.  On this version we put the titles at the top of the advert because with the photo being to the right now, the titles looked better on the left, with them overlapping slightly. We also added a shadow to the photo of the album cover so that it stood out more, and didn't look flat to the background. In the end we decided we preferred this version as there is a lot less empty space.

Task 11: Process Of Our Final Album Cover 2 - Print Products

After creating the front and back of our album, we started on our inside panels. We wanted to include pictures of Jess that are not from the Heaven music video as we had used these for our front and back cover. We found a photo of Jess at a photo shoot and thought this would be a good photo to use because it looks professional and as if it was took for the purpose of this album. We made it slightly transparent and placed it over the top of a white background. However we didn't like this because it looked simple and basic, with not much going on. Therefore we thought of the idea of including a signature of the Jess's name to be layered over the top of the photo. We also made this transparent, which made the photo and the signature fade into each other, which we really liked.

After creating this, we moved onto the right side of the inside panel. Here we struggled for ideas as a after looking at real life products, most albums included either just photos or lyrics to all the songs in the album which we didn't want to do as there isn't much room to do this on the one side of the panel. We then thought of the idea of having a dedication of the album to the artists friend who passed away as although it isn't the ordinary convention of an album, it has been done before and is done in other media products. We chose the font we did because it reminded us on handwriting so it is as if the artist has hand wrote this dedication herself. In the background we included an old photo of Jess and Kate because it relates to the fact she has wrote the dedication to her. Finally, we made the sizing of the panels correct.

Task 11: Process Of Our Final Album Cover - Print Products

From our previous audience feedback we realised that our audience preferred the colourful CD cover. In order to improve our product we decided to dismiss the black and white effect and make it more colourful. We kept the previous colour design exactly the same and then created a new version.

We started by removing the grey scale effect, followed by going on Photoshop and removing the green background which left us with the single image of Jess. Although we wanted her to be more colourful we didn't want to use that background as we felt it didn't look like the typical background of a real product. After looking at Taylor Swifts album covers for inspiration we decided to use an orange toned scene for the background as this was a more realistic background for a real product. We then overlaid the photo of Jess on top to make it look like she is in the scene.

We also liked the idea of having a lens flare on the photo as it would be like she was standing outside when the sun was setting. This would not have worked on the previous background because it was not as bright and would of been a lot more harsher. At first we were unclear on how to add a lens flare to our photo however we used our initiative and went onto Premier Pro to import the photo and add a lense flare. We then screen-shotted this and imported it back onto the front of the CD cover. We then repeated this for the back cover so the front and the back covers would coincide together.

After this process, we wanted to find out if our audience still preferred our original colour cover they picked in our previous audience feedback (the bottom one) or our new one (the top one.) We asked the same people as last time which one they preferred and counted the votes again. We received 12 for our new cover and 8 for the original cover.
We were pleased that the majority of people liked our new cover because this is the one we also preferred, however there was slight issue that was mentioned by a few people. This was that they didn't like the lens flare ring that surrounded Jess's torso as it was a bit full-on and unrealistic. We took this criticism on board and decided that we needed to make it more natural as the lense flare was too bright for the photo therefore we went back onto Premier Pro and softened the flare.

Once we did that we imported the photo once again to complete our final cover.

Then to complete it, all we had to do was make the sizings correct, so they are the size of a real media product.

Task 12: Audience Feedback of 5 Album Covers - Print Products

After creating our previous drafts, we decided to get some audience feedback. Due to the fact we are biased to our CD cover, we decided to create some different panels, such as in colour, in a sepia effect and changing the back cover to white instead of grey. This is because we wanted to ask a wider universal audience and see which one they believed looked more effective in terms of advertising, branding the artist and which they believed looked best in general. Also if they didn't like any of the black and white versions, we have other ideas we can use and can develop. We decided to do a tally chart, by printing the photos off and show a range of people the covers and do a tally on which one they liked the most.

The feedback showed that the most popular cover was the colour version, and the least popular was the first cover we produced, followed by the second cover. This was surprising to us, as we spent more time on the first 2 covers than the others and believed that the black and white was most effective. However when speaking to people, they thought the black and white was boring and didn't stand out as much as the colour or the sepia (which was second most popular) and if they were buying the CD in a shop the black and white wouldn't attract their attention to buy where as the colour would. Therefore, we decided that we would keep the colour version and then develop another colour design that we could also get feedback on.

Task 11: First Draft of Album Cover - Print Products

After we finished editing, we started on our print products. We started by looking through photos/videos we had of Jess from when we filmed and found a photo of her walking down a path with the back to the camera. We liked this shot and thought it would be good on the album as it is helps brand her as an artist, as she is wearing the hat, coat and heels which is her signature style. We started by going on Photoshop and cropping out the background of the shot because we don't want the cover to reflect the music video only, as it is in album cover and not a single cover.

After this we created the panel templates for the cover, we started by just doing the front and back as we wanted to focus on this first. We inserted the picture onto what would be the front cover panel and added titles. We chose a font that was quite simple yet stands out and has more depth due to the shadows, instead of it just being flat to the image. We chose to have the background grey because the songs on the album are more slower and emotional songs rather than up-beat songs, so we thought darker/neutral tones would look most effective. The photo of Jess on its own in colour did not suit the style of the rest of the cover as it didn't go with the grey tone and it didn't look right in the middle with the rest of the cover just blank. Therefore we played around with it, by inserting the same picture twice again then adding a transparency effect on 2 of the photos, one more than the other, then putting them side by side, making it look like she's gradually fading away, like an ombre effect. We then tried to put the photos in black and white, but it looked too plain and clashed with the background, so instead we brought the cover forward and the photos back, which created a different tone which we really liked as it isn't too bright or too dark.

We then started on the back cover. We found a medium close up shot of Jess we took while filming which we really liked because it also helped brand the artist. This shot is similar to the one we hand-drawn for our draft, however this is in black and white to blend in to the front cover. We used the same text font as we did for the front cover, although this does not stand out as much as the writing is a lot smaller, although we did put a thin shadow around it. Furthermore it was hard to choose a colour that could be seen easily due to the different tones of the photo. The songs we have used for the album are the typical song that this artist would sing as they are more emotional, slow songs, which is her style. We used a bar-code and our production company name as that is what is included on a real album back cover, along with small print at the bottom about copyright issues etc.

We then decided we were going to create more drafts of the covers and then get audience feedback on them. We started by creating another cover that swapped around the front and back from our previous design. When this was finished we actually preferred this deigned, as in the previous design the front cover looked quite bare/plain where as with the picture of Jess on the front it stands out more. Also on the back cover due to the song list, there isn't much of a background needed so the 3 outlines fitted well here and on the previous cover the words got lost into the picture of Jess due to the variety of tones on her outfit and the trees where as in the new one they stand out. Therefore we decided the cover below was our favourite out of the two.

November feedback

Your web-log evidences great progress and a clear understanding of the task.  The edits show a desire to improve and your creative journey is demonstrated in a series of posts.

The current edit shows sensitivity to the edt and intuitive editing technique.  The narrative is clear to me and there are a range of shots including point of view shots and some nice technical effects such as a lens flare.

Targets

  • Show the video to a target audience and gain feedback.  Prepare questions to gain some qualitative research

  • Bookend the video with something to clarify the story such as the ordr of service

  • Can you make the order of service clearer. Maybe include a close up and drop it in avoiding any continuity issues.

  • Have you any more footage from the studio that you can include? For example some close ups of the artist and use of lighting may improve the range of shots.

  • Ad a logo for the channel and a title for the song.

  • Tighten the edit by shortening some clips.

  • Ensure lip-synching is accurate.

The video is reaching level 4 and shows great promise.

Task 10: Music Video Draft 2

This is our second draft and first full edit of our music video, which is 3 minutes and 20 seconds, the length of the song. We have used a variety of the shots that we recorded, featuring each location and the old videos throughout the whole video. At the start of the video we have used titles for the artists name and the song title. The inspiration for our titles came from Taylor Swift's video "Wildest Dreams" as we really liked the transparency effect on it and the font itself, however we made ours bolder in order for them to stand out a bit more.

After completing this, we decided that we needed some feedback from an audience about the music video. Due to us deciding that the target audience was fairly universal, we asked a range of people of different ages, gender etc to complete a simple questionnaire after watching the video. One of the questions was what the black and white clips represent because when our video was shown to the class one or two people were confused as to what they represented, so we wanted to make sure whether the majority of people also felt this. We didn't want to give any information away about the video because that would result in the responses being biased, so we didn't explain the storyline until after we completed the questionnaire. These are the responses we received:

Task 10: Music Video Draft 1

In our first lesson after filming we got straight on with editing and this is the first draft of what we did in that lesson. We only got up to 55 seconds because we spent a lot of time importing and renaming the clips so we could find them easily, and also we just wanted to get a basic idea of what the rest of the video is going to look like. Furthermore we spent time sorting through our footage and seeing how many clips we had. We have a large amount and variety of footage, however some of the recordings went wrong for example the artist forgetting the words or the camera appearing shaky and unsteady, so those clips won't be used. We also have a few recordings that are quite long which we will break up and use throughout the video. At this point we have not included the old footage of Katy and Jess because we need to put this on a memory stick as it is on Katy's laptop at home.

Filming Diary

On the 8th of October we filmed our music video. We planned to film on this day 2 weeks before because we had to find a date that the singer in our film could do. A week prior to filming we created the funeral programme and printed it on to card and we also booked out the theatre of our Sixth Form because that is one of our filming locations. To do this we just had to ask reception if it was free and we booked it out for an hour. On Thursday we began filming at 11.30, we had already planned the shots we wanted to film so we could begin straight away. We moved some black curtains across the walls of the room to create a blank canvas and put a stool we borrowed from media in the middle. When creating our pitch we said we were going to use mirrors during this scene and have them surrounding the artist, but when we set this up we decided it did not look as effective as we anticipated. We therefore changed the shot by having the artist sat with no other props or mise-on-scene surrounding her, which we believe looked more powerful and indicated isolation of the artist which helps with the narrative. We then set up the camera, tripod and dolly to the angle we needed and then got Jess to sit on the stool. However when taking on set photos we realised that the quality on our iPhones were higher than on the camera and it was a much more clear, crisp image where as the camera's were much more pixilated and blurred. To ensure our phone cameras would work for filming we filmed some preliminary shots and found that it worked well and therefore we recorded the rest of our footage on our phones.

When we first went to the theatre to film all the chairs were down, so we put them back up because we thought we were using the mirrors, and you could see the reflection of the chairs in the mirrors due to the way we wanted them placed.
This is a picture of us setting up the mirrors. We wanted them to surround the artist round the back and sides of her, and we were going to film so you could see her reflection in them. We played around with them because we didn't feel they looked effective e.g by moving them in different positions, but in the end decided against them all together.

Setting up the camera, tripod and dolly before filming, where we decided against using them and used our phones instead due to the better quality.

At half 12 we made our way to the second location at the church. On the way we did some filming in the car. We did not take a recce shot of filming in the car because we did not have a definite idea of what we actually wanted to film so  we played around with it by recording a few shots of the artist singing while looking out the window. These did not look as effective as we had hoped so we did not include them. However we also recorded the artist just looking out the window which did look effective because it was as if she was having flashbacks, remembering old times with her friend. We also filmed a time-lapse of the surroundings out the window which looked really effective due to the contrast between the slow music and the shot of the time-lapse, which when played at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster.

To our surprise when we tried to go inside the church to film it was locked so instead we overcame the problem and filmed in the surroundings of the church and are happy with how they have turned out. We did not spend as long as expected filming at the church as we pre-planned the shots we wanted to film so knew exactly what we were doing and just got on with it.

After filming at the church we walked to our third location at the forest. On the way we found an small pathway surrounded by trees which we thought would look effective in our video. We filmed a few random improvised shots of Jess walking along the path etc which turned out effective so we decided to keep them and use them in the video. After this we made our way to the third location of the forest, where we had planned to film shots of the artist singing. However once we had arrived there we came up with the idea of filming the artist as if she was having a day dream/flashbacks with her friend who had passed away. Despite this being unplanned, recording it in the moment and getting Jess to improvise worked very well and it looked very natural which is what we wanted to come across. The only problem we came across on the day was trying not to get any property or members of the public in our shots, but this was only a minor issue as most of the filming was is quiet areas and due to filming in the middle of the day there was not many people around.

Saturday, 3 October 2015

Task 10: Recce

Before filming we did a recce of our locations. Film companies use recces to decide whether the location is suitable for what they are hoping to film. Checks will be done to make sure that the area is safe for all the actors and filming crew and to locate any possible problems that may arise in the process of filming.

The first location we visited on our recce was the church. We really liked this location because the surroundings were very quiet, meaning there is not much chance of getting disturbed e.g cars driving past, the public walking past etc. Also it is a very traditional church, which is what we wanted, because we felt it would set the scene better and would help tell the storyline more. The only problem we may fact is that there may be people visiting the church while we are filming. If this occurs then we will stop recording and leave the church until they have gone and then continue.

This is the main entrance to the church itself. We will have a tracking shot of the artist walking down this path and to the door, as she is going to the funeral of her friend. We will probably incorporate this at the beginning of the video.

This is the other side of the church again from the previous picture. We will film another tracking shot of the artist walking down the path and round the corner to the back of the church. We may also film a medium shot of the artist sat on the stairs reading the funeral programme.

This is the whole church from the front. We will film an establishing shot of this to set the scene for the audience and we may also film a panning shot, panning up to the top of the church as there is a cross on the top, which isn't visible on this photo. We thought that the cross was very symbolic and would be nice to include in the video.

The second location we visited was the forest location. We are going to have the artist walking through here and maybe crouching/sitting down while singing the lyrics to the song. We believe there is a variety of shot types we could use here, for example close ups while the artist is singing and also long shots that include the scenery. There is also a lot of open space in the forest that is not visible on this picture, which will look effective as it will make the artist look vulnerable and powerless. To further connote this we will do high angle shots looking down on the artist.

We could not do a recce for our first location which is the theatre at our sixth form because you have to book it out, which we did not realise. We have now booked out the theatre for the day we film and will take photos on set before filming. We will check the weather forecast before filming as we don't want to ruin the equipment.

Task 10: Permissions

In order to use the Beyonce's song "Heaven" we had to get in contact with her record company and ask for permission. We firstly planned to send them a letter because we could not find the correct email address, but we kept looking and eventually found it. The picture below is a copy of the letter that we wrote, which we copied and pasted into an email.

Also we had to ask permission from the Church Wardens and the Vicar of the church to film in the church grounds. We found the email address of the church on the church website and sent an email through the website.

Opening Scene of our Music Video

At the beginning we will have an establishing shot of the church. Then the artist will be revealed walking into the church for her friends funeral. No one else has attended the funeral and the artist is alone. As the artist walks into the church she picks up a funeral programme off the floor without looking at it. There is a quick shot of the programme but the identity of who has passed away isnt revealed yet. The artist will continue to walk down the aisle of the church and sit on a pew several rows back from the front of the church. No music is playing yet. You can just hear the footsteps of the artist. Then the artist will look at the funeral programme to reveal the name and identity of the deceased. As she turns it over it has the words "heaven couldn't wait for you" which is lyrics to the song which we decided to add in to contrast between the lyrics and the narrative.

Narrative for our Music Video

In the original narrative for the music video it was based on Beyonce having a miscarriage and losing a potential child. Therefore we decided to interpret it into our own narrative of losing a close/best friend. We thought we would be able to represent this better as our artist is considerably younger than Beyonce and therefore wouldn't be as obvious to the audience if we was to make her lose a child. The artist in the music video will be the mourner as her best friend has passed away. As the actor who will be playing the artist is a good friend of Katy's. We found some footage of when they were younger which we wanted to incorporate because it shows happiness within their friendship which suited the style of the music video. These clips from when they were younger will represent flashbacks and past events. This makes the music video seem more realistic as there is real footage within. We have created a funeral programme which we will be using in our video which on the front has a picture of Katy along with her date of birth and the date she has supposedly passed away, and on the back we have included a quote from the song itself.

Task 8: Pitch Feedback Questions

We were given some questions in our pitch feedback that we did not answer in detail/or at all.

1.The Beyonce video is quite experimental and abstract, what will you take from the original video?
We are taking the same narrative as the Beyonce video of losing a loved one, however the artist in our video has lost her best friend whereas in the Beyonce video it is about her losing her child through a miscarriage. Also we have similar locations to Beyonce such as the church and the car but are also going to incorporate our own location ideas such as the forest and our sixth form theatre. We also are going to be including old video clips that we found of Jess (the artist) and Katy (the friend that has passed away) throughout the video which represents the artist having flashbacks and reminiscing the past.

2. How will you brand the artist?
Our artist is going to be a cover artist, where she doesn't actually sing her own songs, but covers songs by other artists. The sort of songs which will feature on her album are more soul, slower and emotional songs, rather than upbeat dance songs. An example of a song that could feature on the album is Leona Lewis - Run. Our artist will have a trademark style that will feature in the video and on the album digipak. This includes the black floppy hat, natural makeup, neutral coloured clothing etc.

3. The song is quite slow so how will this affect the style and pace of editing?
Due to the song being slow we will probably be using a lot of slow motion throughout the video on certain clips. This is because some of the shots we get might be a bit fast and they will not coincide with the music, so making them a bit slower will make the flow of the clips and the whole video more suitable. Furthermore using quick cuts may not correspond with the song, so dissolves or fades may be more appropriate, but once we have recorded and start editing we can play around with it and see what looks best.

4. What lighting have you considered?
In terms of lighting we are going to be using a variety, depending on the particular scene. When we are recording in the theatre/hall the artist is going to be sat in the middle of the room on a stool with no other surroundings apart from a black curtain around the whole room. Here we will have low key lighting and also a spotlight on the artist to emphasis isolation. In the shots we film outside we want to use the natural lighting only as it will look more realistic. We will also be doing this for the church scene.

5. How will you put a 'positive perspective' that you discussed on the song?
In Beyonce's video she includes videos of her and a friend driving to the beach and taking videos, which we liked the idea of because like in the Heaven video, we don't want every shot to be sad. However we are going to change the happy times the artist is experiencing, for example we thought about filming the artist going to a party. Also we are including the old videos we found of Jess and Katy when they were younger of them because it shows the happiness of their friendship and the artist having flashbacks of these good times.

6. What permission will you need for shooting on location?

We will need permission to shoot in the church and the theatre. For the church we will need to get in contact with the vicar for permission to film inside and in the outside grounds of the church. Also for the theatre we need to ask permission from reception to use it as teachers may have booked it out already to teach lessons.

Pitch feedback

A well executed pitch showing some planning and development of ideas. There are still some gaps which hopefully the pitch will help to clarify.  You are working at lower end of level 3 at present.

remember to address the audience and avoid turning your back and looking at the screen.  The original video was shown which helped the audience connect with your ideas.  Your slides allowed you to explain ideas and raise issues. Use these as prompts rather than redaing them verbatim.
the storyboard of six scenes is fine for this stage in the process but needs to be expanded when planning becomes clearer.  It is an essential part of the process and must be documented.

I like the ideas of a performance around nature, maybe this would be the idea for branding the artist.
You consider issues surrounding representation and keep reflecting upon this.
The Beyonce video is quite experimanetal and abstract, what will you take from the original video?

  • Engage with the evaluation questions. this will help later when you answer them.
  • How will you brand the artist
  • Outline your drafts and ideas for print artefacts
  • Put the presentation on the blog
  • Develop ideas for a narrative

The song is quite slow so how will this affect the style and pace of editing?
What lighting have you considered?
How will you put a 'positive perspective' that you discussed on the song?
What permission will you need for shooting on location?

Rutherford feedback

Good use of terminology and a confident analysis of texts.
Research into a range of mediums and a range of texts is thorough and detailed supported by images and screenshots.
Your ideas are being generated and you are evidencing this journey.
Storyboarding and mind-mapping is evidneced clearly and ideas are discussed.
Very promising.  You are 4 marks from an A so I am hoping that you make thos up on this coursework.  The idea and choice of song are very important decisions to get right. They must keep your interest and enthusiasm and offer scope to be creative.

Targets

My concern over your choice of a Beyonce song is with the issue of representation. Consider problems that may arise in branding the artist.
Choose a song or video that is going to inspire or inform your own production and explore it in detail.

Task 6: Storyboard

We decided to do our storyboard online on storyboardthat.com because we thought we could present our ideas more clearly than if we drew it. We didn't make this a final, structured storyboard for our music video as we thought there would be too many shots to replicate s we chose 6 main scenarios that we will re-create and develop.

Breakdown of shots:

Shot 1 is going to be set in a rural setting either in a field of forest as we thought this would give a lonely atmosphere due to there being so much open space surrounding the individual. This idea was inspired idea by Leona Lewis video "Run" which looked effective due to that atmosphere of isolation. We would use a wide range of shots and angles including close ups because they show the emotion of the artist, as well as long shots because you would be able to see the artist and the scenery.

Shot 2 is set in a church as we will have the artist in the church which will tell the audience that she is mourning/grieving over a lost one. In the original video for Beyonce's "Heaven" she was shown in a church surrounded by few other people who looked upset. Beyonce is shown crying in the church and we thought it would be good to reflect a bit of her video in to ours to show that we thought about the original video and used it to influence our video. We thought about having an establishing shot in the church at the start of the video of the artist walking into the church in slow motion because it will set the mood of the video right from the start.

Shot 3 will be set in a graveyard of some sort. The clips in the graveyard will not be too prevalent throughout the video as we just want snippets of it throughout of the artist grieving and reminiscing. We will probably mainly use panning shots and also close ups because as mentioned before the audience will be able to see how the character is feeling. This is important because although there will be sad elements where the artist is grieving there will also be positive and happy parts where the artist is reminiscing on good times she had with her lost loved one, close ups will show this contrasting emotion well.

Shot 4 will be the artist sitting on a stool in a dark room or stage. We got this idea from Whitney Houstons "I Will Always Love You" as we thought it would be simple and effective to just have the dark room and the artist on there own singing as it will connote isolation. This ensures we have the performance element in the music video. We thought it would look most effective if we had the camera panning around the artist in the middle. This could be used with a  a dolly. We want to surround the artist by mirrors too so through the camera we can see the artist looking at her reflection. At our sixth form we have a hall where we can put the black curtains up and film this scene there. Also they have mirrors in the dance department so we can ask to use these.

Shot 5 is a flashback of the happy times the artist experienced with her loved one as we didn't want every shot to be sad. We don't want it to be too similar to the original song where they are driving to a beach, taking photos etc so are going to change the memories the artist has experienced. Also we are going to do a point of view shot of the character looking out of the window

Shot 6 is supposed to be a scenic shot similar to the one in Alexandra Burke's "Hallelujah" where the artist is standing performing and in the background there is lots of candles or people holding handles/lights. The main reason for this idea was to bring some light into a dark situation and to show that there is hope.
