We were given some questions in our
pitch feedback that we did not answer in detail/or at all.
1.The Beyonce video is quite experimental and abstract, what
will you take from the original video?
We are taking the same narrative as the
Beyonce video of losing a loved one, however the artist in our video has lost
her best friend whereas in the Beyonce video it is about her losing her
child through a miscarriage. Also we have similar locations to
Beyonce such as the church and the car but are also going to incorporate
our own location ideas such as the forest and our sixth form theatre. We also
are going to be including old video clips that we found of Jess (the artist)
and Katy (the friend that has passed away) throughout the video which
represents the artist having flashbacks and reminiscing the past.
2. How will you brand the artist?
Our artist is going to be a
cover artist, where she doesn't actually sing her own songs, but covers
songs by other artists. The sort of songs which will feature on her album are
more soul, slower and emotional songs, rather than upbeat dance songs. An
example of a song that could feature on the album is Leona Lewis - Run. Our
artist will have a trademark style that will feature in the video and on the
album digipak. This includes the black floppy hat, natural makeup, neutral
coloured clothing etc.
3. The song is quite slow so how will this affect the style and
pace of editing?
Due to the song being slow we will probably be
using a lot of slow motion throughout the video on certain clips. This is
because some of the shots we get might be a bit fast and they will not coincide
with the music, so making them a bit slower will make the flow of the clips and
the whole video more suitable. Furthermore using quick cuts may not correspond
with the song, so dissolves or fades may be more appropriate, but once we have
recorded and start editing we can play around with it and see what looks best.
4. What lighting have you considered?
In terms of lighting we are going
to be using a variety, depending on the particular scene. When we are recording
in the theatre/hall the artist is going to be sat in the middle of the room on
a stool with no other surroundings apart from a black curtain around the whole
room. Here we will have low key lighting and also a spotlight on the artist to
emphasis isolation. In the shots we film outside we want to use the
natural lighting only as it will look more realistic. We will also be doing
this for the church scene.
5. How will you put a 'positive
perspective' that you discussed on the song?
In Beyonce's video she includes
videos of her and a friend driving to the beach and taking videos, which we
liked the idea of because like in the Heaven video, we don't want every
shot to be sad. However we are going to change the happy times the artist
is experiencing, for example we thought about filming the artist going to a
party. Also we are including the old videos we found of Jess and Katy when they
were younger of them because it shows the happiness of their friendship and the
artist having flashbacks of these good times.
6. What permission will you
need for shooting on location?
We will need permission to shoot in
the church and the theatre. For the church we will need to get in contact with
the vicar for permission to film inside and in the outside grounds of the
church. Also for the theatre we need to ask permission from reception to use it
as teachers may have booked it out already to teach lessons.
