Task 2.2: Print Products Research

To generate ideas for our print products we analysed album covers by Beyonce herself along with some by other similar artists.

This is the front and back cover of Beyonce's album called "Beyonce" that includes 'Heaven', the song we are using. It is a very simple design, which can be quite effective because it draws your attention to the information of the album e.g who the album is by and makes it easily noticeable. However as we are trying to brand the artist, this probably wouldn't be most effective as having a picture of the artist herself on the front cover would help this branding as the picture will reflect the artist's personality and style. I do like the back cover having just the names of the songs on it because when back covers do have pictures they can look quite over crowded.

This is the single cover for Heaven. I like this cover because the photo reflects the music video itself, however we are producing an album cover, not a single cover so we want our cover to be more universal to the whole album rather than the video.

We also looked at the album cover for Beyonce's I Am Sasha Fierce and Leona Lewis' Spirit. They are both quite similar in the fact that they both include a picture of the artists face which I liked because it is helping brand the artist, which is what we are aiming to do.

I think the black and white and the colour both look as effective as each other, so I think when we are creating our print products we will draft our designs in both black and white and then choose which looks best. However I think if we do use colour they will be quite neutral or darker tones because the sort of songs our artist will be singing are slower, more emotional ones rather than up-beat pop songs.
