November feedback

Your web-log evidences great progress and a clear understanding of the task.  The edits show a desire to improve and your creative journey is demonstrated in a series of posts.

The current edit shows sensitivity to the edt and intuitive editing technique.  The narrative is clear to me and there are a range of shots including point of view shots and some nice technical effects such as a lens flare.

Targets

  • Show the video to a target audience and gain feedback.  Prepare questions to gain some qualitative research

  • Bookend the video with something to clarify the story such as the ordr of service

  • Can you make the order of service clearer. Maybe include a close up and drop it in avoiding any continuity issues.

  • Have you any more footage from the studio that you can include? For example some close ups of the artist and use of lighting may improve the range of shots.

  • Ad a logo for the channel and a title for the song.

  • Tighten the edit by shortening some clips.

  • Ensure lip-synching is accurate.

The video is reaching level 4 and shows great promise.

Task 10: Music Video Draft 2

This is our second draft and first full edit of our music video, which is 3 minutes and 20 seconds, the length of the song. We have used a variety of the shots that we recorded, featuring each location and the old videos throughout the whole video. At the start of the video we have used titles for the artists name and the song title. The inspiration for our titles came from Taylor Swift's video "Wildest Dreams" as we really liked the transparency effect on it and the font itself, however we made ours bolder in order for them to stand out a bit more.

After completing this, we decided that we needed some feedback from an audience about the music video. Due to us deciding that the target audience was fairly universal, we asked a range of people of different ages, gender etc to complete a simple questionnaire after watching the video. One of the questions was what the black and white clips represent because when our video was shown to the class one or two people were confused as to what they represented, so we wanted to make sure whether the majority of people also felt this. We didn't want to give any information away about the video because that would result in the responses being biased, so we didn't explain the storyline until after we completed the questionnaire. These are the responses we received:

Task 10: Music Video Draft 1

In our first lesson after filming we got straight on with editing and this is the first draft of what we did in that lesson. We only got up to 55 seconds because we spent a lot of time importing and renaming the clips so we could find them easily, and also we just wanted to get a basic idea of what the rest of the video is going to look like. Furthermore we spent time sorting through our footage and seeing how many clips we had. We have a large amount and variety of footage, however some of the recordings went wrong for example the artist forgetting the words or the camera appearing shaky and unsteady, so those clips won't be used. We also have a few recordings that are quite long which we will break up and use throughout the video. At this point we have not included the old footage of Katy and Jess because we need to put this on a memory stick as it is on Katy's laptop at home.
